- Sena Dynasty
- The origin of the Sena dynasty of Bengal may be traced to a group of migrant warriors hailing from Karnataka. Some-time in the beginning of the 12th century, one of them, Vijayasena (1095-1108), established a principality in west Bengal that with the growing weakness of the Pala dynasty became powerful. By the end of the 12th century, it came to control a vast territory extending from Benaras to Assam. The last Sena ruler, Lakshamansena (1175-1206), was ousted from his capital Nadia by Muhammad bin Bakhtiyar Khalji circa 1204.
